COMT GENE AND RESPONSE TO OPIODS - RS4633-CC, RS4680-GG, RS6269-GG - Question 1

#1

More likely to require pain medication with opioids after surgery, due to AG genotype for rs6269 compared to people with other genotypes. Anyone with a similar response to pain meds?

#2

Yes I do…I also developed a VERY high tolerance to opioids over a period of 6 years under doctors care. I had to find an alternative method to deal with chronic pain. I now request my surgeons,if at all possible, to use different medications. Never blocks and local anesthesia has worked for me…

#3

I hate opioids. Instead of helping my pain I feel grumpy and depressed when I take them. Many of my family members refuse all pain meds after surgery because it’s more trouble than it’s worth.

#4

Opiods make me feel awful and I can barely function on an effective pain killing dose. If I have to take them, I make sure it’s as brief as possible. :slightly_smiling_face:

#5

I make a lousy drug fiend. They don’t help pain, and I throw up a LOT!

Look at the COMT chapter of the book Genetic Testing Defining Your Path to a Personalized Health Plan.

You will get a lot out of it. https://geneticdetoxification.com/book/
